Growth Mindset

The growth mindset is something extremely pertinent to me because I competitively coach League of Legends, a popular video game. I haven't heard of Carol Dweck before doing this assignment, but I have heard of the growth mindset before. I learned about it in high school through my AP Psychology teacher. With school work, I do not like to challenge myself at all, so I most definitely have a fixed mindset. However, when it comes to coaching, I have a growth mindset, and I coach my players to have a growth mindset when it comes to playing the game. I believe that in order to compete at the highest level, one must have a growth mindset so that there skill ceiling is never in reach, for they believe that their skills can be honed and improved. At OU, I've learned that I do not enjoy learning very much, mostly due to my mindset. My biggest challenge when learning new material is finding interest in the material being taught. I will be very interested in learning about the growth mindset this semester so that I can apply it to my coaching and hopefully my academic life.

  1. Hey Darren,

How cool that you coach League of Legends. I have never heard of that type of position but I think that makes total sense. As someone who has coached a few sports teams, I completely agree that teaching a growth mindset is key. To reach our potential we need to believe we can still grow and then make sure we take steps to improve and grow. Good luck with your coaching.
